Coahoma High School senior named Plains Market's Ag Student of the Week
Jocelyn Young credits her agricultural background for teaching her how to selflessly serve others at a young age. Now a senior at Coahoma High School, she hopes to use this passion for service to excel within her future career in the medical field.
Young joined the Coahoma FFA chapter when she was in the third grade, and soon began showing goats, steers, and sheep projects at major stock shows across the state of Texas. She has held several leadership positions, including serving as the president of her chapter, and vice president of the El Rancho District FFA Association.
Young also competes in leadership development events and career development events at the district, area, and state level, including radio broadcasting, poultry judging, creed speaking, skills, farm business management, and cotton judging.
Outside of FFA, Young is a member of her school’s student council, student government, and National Honor Society. She is currently valedictorian of her graduating class, and has earned a spot on the Dean’s List at Howard College by taking dual credit courses through the university. Young is also active within UIL, and has competed in the science and prose competitions, in addition to being a volleyball and track athlete. She has participated in many community service projects, including hosting agricultural enrichment programs for local youth, trunk or treat events, book drives, and delivering meals to those in need.
After graduation, Pruski plans to attend Texas A&M University to earn her degree in biomedical science. She hopes to use this degree to pursue a career in optometry, and fulfill her desire of helping others through her work.
“I have always wanted to have an impact in people’s lives,” said Young.
Congratulations on your outstanding accomplishments Jocelyn, the Capital Farm Credit team wishes you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
