For Jason and Elisa Hind, building a life in agriculture was never just a dream. It was a calling.
Today, the couple operates Hind Cattle Company, a thriving registered Akaushi cattle operation headquartered on 600 acres in Santa Elena, Texas. What began as an ambitious vision for a family-owned cattle business, has grown into a herd of more than 1,000 mother cows across three South Texas counties.
Their journey is one of perseverance, innovation and the right financial partnership.

A Commitment to Quality
Hind Cattle Company specializes in registered Akaushi cattle, a breed known for its exceptional genetics and premium beef quality.
“Akaushi” translates to “red cow” in Japanese, and every animal in the Hind herd is DNA verified, allowing the family to trace its genetics back to Japan.
The ranch’s sandy loam soils (a blend of sand, silt, and clay) produce strong native grasses that support cattle even in the challenging South Texas climate.
“What is so unique about Akaushi cattle is that they are genetically predisposed to deposit fat within the muscle,” Jason said. “That’s the marbling you see in a steak, and it creates the rich, buttery flavor that makes Akaushi beef so highly sought after.”
Turning a Dream into a Business
After marrying, Jason and Elisa quickly realized they wanted to build their future in the cattle industry. But as many beginning producers know, getting started in agriculture requires significant capital.
The couple sought financing through traditional banks but continued to encounter obstacles.
“We just kept hearing ‘no,'” Jason recalled.
Everything changed when they connected with Capital Farm Credit.
“Not only did they encourage us, but they were welcoming,” he said. “It was a breath of fresh air walking into a Capital Farm Credit office and being able to talk to someone who understood agriculture and spoke the same language.”
With Capital Farm Credit’s support, the Hinds purchased their first 150 commercial Akaushi cows and began building the foundation of their operation.
Growth Through Partnership
Seven years later, that initial investment has transformed into a successful and expanding ranching business.
The Hinds credit Capital Farm Credit’s consistent lending support for helping them scale their operation while pursuing new opportunities.
“Capital Farm Credit gave us our first start,” Jason said. “To have that consistent lending power really created the vessel we used to grow at the rate we did.”
Today, managing cattle across multiple counties requires efficiency and innovation. The operation has grown so large that traditional horseback herding is no longer practical for all of their pastures.
Instead, the ranch uses helicopters to move cattle during pasture rotations. This reduces stress on the animals and improves efficiency.
Investing in the Next Generation

For the Hinds, success is measured by more than herd size or acreage. It’s also about creating opportunities for their family and preserving ranching heritage.
The couple is raising two young children on the ranch and values the lessons they are learning through agriculture.
“It is very important to support youth and show them this lifestyle,” Elisa said.
Because of their partnership with Capital Farm Credit, the Hinds have been able to purchase land, establish their headquarters and create a place where their children can learn responsibility, work alongside livestock and horses, and develop an appreciation for rural life.
“We’re fortunate that we’re able to raise our children here and watch them experience ranching through their own eyes,” she said.
More Than a Lending Relationship
The Hinds say one aspect of Capital Farm Credit that stands out is its patronage program, which returns a portion of earnings to eligible borrowers through dividend checks.
Those funds can be reinvested into the ranch, used to support family goals or help finance future improvements.
“It feels like more than a banking relationship,” Jason said. “We feel like we own a piece of the company because we do.”
As Hind Cattle Company continues to grow, Jason and Elisa remain focused on producing high-quality cattle, stewarding their land and building a future for the next generation. Along the way, they have found value in having a financial partner that understands agriculture and supports long-term success.
“Together with Capital Farm Credit, we are better,” Jason said. “It’s more than a tagline. It’s really how you run your business.”
