AgStart Loan Program

The Ag Start Loan Program provides youth in agriculture the tools and resources they need to prepare for a successful career in the agricultural industry. This loan program is available to 4-H and FFA members involved junior market, breeding and commercial livestock projects.

Funds can be used to purchase and care for a junior livestock project or for a general purpose youth agricultural loan and must be repaid following the sale of the animal(s). The AgStart Loan Program is designed to offer educational and financial awareness to youth while supporting the next generation of farmers and ranchers.

 

Who Is Eligible?

Eligible youth must be enrolled in, and attending, public, private (home) elementary or secondary schools in Texas and must be a member in good standing of either a 4-H club or FFA chapter. Their project must be supervised by a County Extension Agent (CEA) or Agricultural Science Teacher (AST). CEA/AST references must be submitted in the Youth Loan Submission Form as part of the application process. The project must produce sufficient income to repay the loan and provide the youth with practical business and educational experience in agriculture-related skills. 

 

AgStart Loan Funds May Be Used For:

 

• The purchase of livestock, feed, seed, equipment, and supplies 
• The purchase, rent, or repair needed tools and equipment
• Paying operating expenses for the project

*The purchase of real estate is not eligible for inclusion in this program.
